    Good morning Brothers and Sisters,

It is Christmas, a time for families and faith. However, this year it has become a time of anxiety and frustration for many in our membership. Across the nation, our profession is facing some of the most difficult times of our careers.

I love this profession and do not regret for one minute choosing it. I would also not advise my children to follow in my footsteps. You can spend your career helping people in the community, placing your own life in danger to do it and then you could have your reputation impugned by someone who does not know you, has never met you but has access to microphones and the ability to scream “racist” at you. It makes a tough job so much tougher.

All that being said, the vast majority of America supports law enforcement and supports the work we do.  We have to remember it. We have to remember that just because we see constant negativity directed at us on the news does not mean it is an accurate reflection of how our communities view us.

First Lady Barbara Bush said “To us, family means putting your arms around each other and being there.” The Fraternal Order of Police is here for you, as members, because we are a family. We will be there! I am so grateful to be a part of the Fraternal Order of Police and to be in this family!

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and I wish each and every one of you a Safe and Prosperous New Year!

    Jay
