Hello:

Thank you for your interest in the FOP Auxiliary. My name is Susan Vargo, I am the chairman for the membership and expansion committee for the Ohio State Auxiliary and District 10 & 11 Trustee. I am available anytime to answer any questions you may have about forming an auxiliary for your lodge.

WHO WE ARE:

The auxiliary is the family member’s organization of the FOP. We are a state and nationally chartered organization that is committed to supporting our officers, their families and the community wherever needed. Our focus is on support of the Fraternal Order of Police, all law enforcement officers and their families through aiding beneficial legislation, providing programs that inform and educate, and through simply caring about each other.

WHO CAN JOIN:

Membership is open to any family member over the age of 18 of an active or retired FOP member. The auxiliary is not just for wives.

GETTING STARTED:

To form an auxiliary, at least 10 family members are needed along with a letter of approval from the FOP parent lodge.

I can be reached at susanvargo89@gmail.com, to answer any questions or assist in starting an auxiliary.

Fraternally,

Susan Vargo

Ohio State Conference New Attendees

Purpose and Guidelines

The State Conference New Attendee’s Guidelines have been established to inform first-time attendees to the State Conference of the Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary on what they can expect and what will be needed to make their conference informative and successful.

FUNCTIONS SPONSORED BY THE AUXILIARY:

The dress attire for this is usually casual shorts or sun dresses (depending on the weather). Please remember you are representing not only your LEO but the auxiliary as well.

BANQUET ATTIRE:

You will see some people will go all out while others may wear more casual attire.

Usually our members will wear dresses or a nice pair of dress slacks with a blouse or sweater.  Wear comfortable yet appropriate clothing. They have many guests that speak at the banquet. This is also when all the awards are given away and the raffles are drawn.

DRESS ATTIRE FOR MEEINGS:

  1. Dress attire for the Opening Ceremonies will be your blue suit if you have one, if not please wear a white shirt, blue or black pants and a sweater (blue or black) the sweater should match the color of your pants.
  2. Second day dress attire will be business casual, capris are fine, please no shorts during meeting hours.

GIVE A WAYS:

  1. Each state officer gives away something to the delegation.  Each delegate Usually does the same.  Something small with the name of the auxiliary you are representing or in the state officer’s case their name.
  2. Or you could donate to a charity such as Special Olympics, Police Memorial, just to name a few. If and when you decide to do this, please make up flyers to pass out so the delegation knows this is what you or your auxiliary have chosen to do.  (Linda Hennie, our National President does this).

MEETINGS:

  1. You need to bring your dues card as well as know the password.
  2. When attending meetings, you will receive a conference book; this book is very informative. It contains information about your board and state trustees.  In this book, you will find reports from your committee chairmen and all delegates to conference. These reports include ways and means projects and ideas that other subordinate auxiliaries are doing, and ways to support your local lodge and get involved in your communities. They will include ideas on membership expansion and how to get your current members more involved.

Conference is a time to take care of business but also to encourage new membership.

We want to be taken seriously and for our FOP to be proud of us and what we accomplish.

The friendships you’ll make with other LEO family members are second to none.  We understand what it’s like to be in a LEO family.  We are here to support not only our LEO’s but each other as well.  While you’re at conference ask questions, participate, get to know the members and their LEO’s.
