The Fraternal Order of Police of Ohio has decided to oppose the constitutional amendment, Issue 1. The FOP of Ohio knows there needs to be a change of course when it comes to combating the opioid crisis, what we are doing today, is not working. We just don’t believe a constitutional amendment is the best way to do this.

We agree with Rich Cordray that reform is long overdue to our criminal code, and that we must find a way to keep the violent criminals and those selling drugs behind bars, while giving those in the throes of addiction a path to better health. We join him in calling upon the General Assembly to take up consideration of the 130th General Assembly’s Recodification Committee report and look forward to working with Rich as the next Governor to implement long overdue reforms to better serve and protect our citizens.

The FOP has overwhelmingly endorsed Rich Cordray for Governor because we know that he is tough on crime and effective in protecting Ohioans. We believe Rich will fight to put drug dealers in prison while getting more treatment to those with addictions who need it.

As the state's Attorney General, Mike DeWine has failed Ohioans. Under his leadership, deaths have tripled under his watch and there has been no new approach to keeping Ohioans alive.

Rich Cordray has demonstrated a commitment to working with the brave men in women in law enforcement -- particularly when it comes to combating the opioid epidemic -- and we look forward to working with him to solve this crisis.
